Cannes Film Festival, France
The Cannes Film Festival founded in 1939, is one of the world's oldest, most influential and prestigious film festivals. The private festival is held annually (usually in the month of May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, in Cannes, in the south of France.
The Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) is the highest prize given to a competing film at the Cannes Film Festival. It was introduced in 1955 by the organizing committee. From 1939 to 1954, the highest prize had been called the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film. From 1964 to 1974 it was replaced again by the Grand Prix du Festival.
